Ruben Navarrette Jr’s Writing, What Nonsense!
I just finished reading an article in the Denver Post that was an
op-ed piece written by Ruben Navarrette Jr, an opinion writer for
the San Diego Union Tribune. In his article Navarrette contends
that the Republicans are going to pay a huge price at the polls
for their objections to the confirmation Sonia Sotomayor for the
U.S. Supreme Court justice opening. He states that the attacks
the Republicans made on Sotomayor’s qualifications will so enrage
the Latino community that the minority Republican Party will be
dwindled down to a very small few because these Latinos will seek
vengeance at the polls.
Now as you can tell by my blogs that I try to stay away from politics.
I am not affiliated with any party and even though I lean a little right,
I vote for who I feel is the best person for the job and not along party
lines. However, in this case I feel I have to say something since this
writer and others like him need to understand that this propaganda they
spew under the guise of opinion journalism is becoming a cancer on the
average American sensibility and it’s time we stand up and expose these
clowns for what they are.
Before I go any further let’s take a look at some of the other articles that
Navarrette has written so we can see where he sits before he tells us
where he stands.
Oct. 22 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
‘A crisis of our own making’: It is remarkable that so many of those
who rail against illegal immigration don’t really understand the terrain.
Nov. 12 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Immigration unlikely to be Obama priority: In July, during an address
to the annual meeting of the National Council of La Raza, Barack
Obama promised to make comprehensive immigration reform “a top
priority in my first year as president.” Don’t hold your breath.
Nov. 26 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Hispanics deserve much better from Obama:
Dec. 3 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Avoiding the heat on immigration: If Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano
wins confirmation as secretary of homeland security, she will be
responsible for enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.
Dec. 21 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Why America needs more guest workers: Comprehensive immigration
reform is a three-legged stool: enhanced border enforcement;
earned legalization for the undocumented; and guest workers for U.S.
employers to fill jobs that Americans won’t do.
Dec. 31 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Racism and the Obama song: Here’s a debate that strikes a familiar
chord. When do song lyrics that are meant to be entertaining hit a
sour note and become offensive?
I’ll let you, the reader determine Navarrette’s agenda but one thing
is clear to me, he doesn’t care about the problems of the majority
of us Americans who are struggling with a falling economy, loss of
our jobs, health care, government spending and the slow and steady
erosion our basic freedoms. He cares that Hispanics are put first
and damn the rest of us.
Now back to the article on Sotomayor. Standing up for a group or
a belief whether it’s religion, sexual preference, race or political
belief is a freedom we all enjoy and cherish. There is nothing wrong
in expressing your beliefs and should be supported by all Americans.
However, when a writer such as Navarrette is so caught up in his
agenda that he writes editorials like this that are so misleading that
it damages the credibility of those who are trying to write truthful
and intelligent opinions.
Does Ruben really believe that Americans or even the Hispanic or
Latino communities who are losing their jobs, losing their businesses,
losing their homes, losing their retirement benefits, seeing Government
spend their tax dollars on bailing out large corporations and watching
as the government tries to socialize medicine, really care if Sotomayor
was put under a tough interrogation by Republicans.
In 6 months let alone a year down the road, will anyone remember or
care about the Sotomayor confirmation hearings. It’s ludicrous to
believe that while standing in the unemployment line you are going
to say to yourself, “I hated the way Sotomayor was treated so I am
not going to vote Republican in the next election”. Now you have to
ask yourself why Navarrette would write something so ridicules?
The answer is he wants the Latino community to try and forget about
the troubles the present and past government has created for them
and wants Latinos to keep these yahoos in power.
How sad this is when major newspapers print such disingenuous
writings and cram it down our throats. It’s time as Americans that
we quit subscribing to these newspapers, set term limits, whether
Republican or Democrat we vote them all out and start fresh. Let’s
get people in our government who are not there for fame, fortune
and to be re-elected but who are there to represent the majority
of the voters who allowed these public servants the privilege of
representing them. This holds true with the newspapers and opinion
writers who try to mislead us or inflame people with articles that
are at best promoting an agenda that the average citizen cares little
about.
