Summer is drawing to a close sooner than we would hope and we
might as well start planning another bar-b-que. It occured to me
not long ago that the majority of people just don’t order the old
fashion drinks that were so popular and hip so many years ago.

I think our next bar-b-que will have an old fashion theme including
the drinks. We’ll have the usual lemonade, and lemonade with
strawberies for the younger and non-drinking group, but we’ll leave
all the micro brews and fufu’s inside. Here is a list of the old classics
that will be served.

OLD FASHION:
In a glass with ice add:

  • dash of bitters
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1 oz whiskey
  • splash of soda
  • garnish with a cherry
  • WHISKEY SOUR:

  • 1 oz whiskey
  • 2 oz sweet lemon juice
  • blend in metal shaker
  • garnish with cherry
  • PERFECT MANHATTAN:
    add to glass with ice:

  • 1/8 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/8 oz sweet vermouth
  • 1 1/2 oz whiskey
  • garnish with lemon twist
  • STINGER:
    add to glass with ice:

  • 1 1/2 oz brandy
  • 1/2 white creme de menthe
  • SMITH AND KEARNS:
    add to glass with ice:

  • 1 1/2 oz brown creme de cocoa
  • 1/2 oz cream
  • splash of soda
  • PRESBYTERIAN:
    Add to glass with ice:

  • 1 oz liquor – your favorite
  • 1/2 fill with gingerale
  • 1/2 fil with soda
  • GOLDEN DREAM:

  • 1 1/2 oz cream
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz galliano
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • SLOE GIN FIZZ:

  • 1 oz sloe gin
  • 2 oz sweet lemon juice
  • fill with soda
  • garnish with cherry
  • GRASSHOPPER:

  • 2 0z cream
  • 1/2 oz white creme de cocoa
  • 1/2 oz green creme de menthe
  • SEA BREEZE:

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1/2 fill cranberry juice
  • 1/2 fill grapefruit juice
  • garnish with a squeeze of lime
  • BRANDY ALEXANDER:

  • 2 oz cream
  • 1/2 oz brown creme de cocoa
  • 1/2 oz brandy
  • sprinkle with nutmeg for garnish
  • This drink list along with the grilled meats should make for a great
end to a great summer. You might want to keep this list for the
holiday’s that are right around the corner. You’ll be able to impress
your friends with your new knowledge of old classics.

    CHEER’S!

    That’s it for now . . . more later.
