Sugar Free Ketchup-Anyone who is diagnosed with type 2
diabetes is told one of the first things to cut from their diet is
ketchup. The high corn syrup & fructose content makes for a
high glycemic index.
Some can argue that 1 tablespoon of ketchup does not contain
sufficient amounts of these ingredients to elevate the blood sugar
level high enough to warrant not using ketchup. This may be true
if a person only uses 1 tablespoon or less. A vast number of people
using ketchup tend to use much more. They smother it on
scrambled eggs, hamburgers, potatoes, and steak to name a few.
Ketchup is also widely used in a variety of recipes from barbecue
sauces, to chili, Swiss steak, cocktail sauce and others. These
recipes sometimes call for a cup or more and thus the amount of
sugar introduced into a person’s blood stream becomes extremely
high. This is a huge problem for people with sugar diabetes as well
as those diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
Now the answers to our prayers, ketchup that has a very low
glycemic index, is easy to make and tastes as good if not better
than the store bought brands, and will save you money.
I stumbled upon a ketchup mix called “MrsWages Ketchup tomato
mix”. The mix itself has 0 grams of fat and zero grams of sugar.
You add this mixture to fresh or canned tomatoes, white vinegar
and sugar or in my case I use Splenda thus the sweet taste
without the sugar.
The mix costs about $3.00 and makes 5 pints of ketchup. The
directions tell you how to can and preserve the ketchup so you
can use it for months without it going bad. You can find it at most
Walmart stores or purchase it on-line at www.Mrswages.com.
For the record, I am not an employee nor am I being paid by
MrsWages to promote this product. In fact I just recently stumbled
upon it during a trip to South Dakota to visit my in-laws. My
father-in-law is a diabetic and during lunch, he introduced me to
his home made ketchup. It was absolutely delicious and I had to
find out what he used. He told me about this mix and gave me a
package of it to try. I will never go back to store bought ketchup
again.
